A letter from a Meditation Guide

Since my early elementary school days, the ‘famous question’ I was asked by teachers, college applications, friends, and family was, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Time and time again, I would answer, “I want to be HAPPY.”

This ambiguous destination of ‘happiness’ was clearly etched in my mind, but I had no idea how to get there. And sadly, the older I became, the further away I seemed to get from that destination. Instead of happiness, I found my mind full of negative, anxious thoughts. So I would ask people around me, “How can I be happy?” Some of their responses: make a lot of money, travel the world, find someone who loves you as equally as you love them, have children, make a discovery that’ll change society, volunteer and help the poor in a third world country, find a hobby you love. These were all great suggestions, but the problem was that none of these suggestions changed my fundamental state of mind. Through meditation I realized that as long as I was a prisoner of my own mind, I would never be free and true happiness would always be like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. This meditation was and is the GPS clearly directing me on the way to find my true self, and the true happiness within. Although true happiness and peace comes from within, it is far from an ‘individualistic’ happiness that ends with just myself. In Korean, the word for happiness is "Heng Bok" (In Korean: "Heng" means action, and "Bok" means blessings. Happiness means to do (action) for others, which in itself becomes the blessing. Helping others has truly become my happiness. After experiencing such profound improvements from cleansing away the human mind of negative thoughts and emotions, I realized the method is too valuable to keep to myself. I’m always very grateful to be able to share this meditation method with others and it is so inspiring to see people’s lives, health, relationships, and happiness improve.

I wish you all the very best during your quest to find your true self & happiness and hope you will find it soon!
